Anyway, personally I found the writing to be courageous and ambitious. And it takes a bit of courage for writers to tackle such complex issues IMHO. To me the story seemed pretty epic with many morally grey areas, no clear cut good and evil, and some rather sensitive topics. a "good" renegade from this group, who tries to "help" by massacring thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands as if human beings were simply ants. another civilisation who partnered with said advanced civilisation and then selfishly betrayed them, destroying their capital and culture, likely killing millions, to ascend to artificial godhood, something that many scifi writers predict will one day occur as part of a human singularity
a gaggle of aggressive colonialists trying to bring civilisation to these less advanced primitives while stabbing each other in the backs
a super advanced civilisation brought low, and now considered to be "!ess civilised" by everyone else, and even some of their own people a group of tough militaristic expansionists fighting a ruthless shadow war against a trade federation while the diplomats talk of trade and peace
